There are “no plans” for President Donald Trump to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin “in the immediate future,” despite Trump’s recent claim that the two would hold talks in Budapest within two weeks, the White House told Reuters on Tuesday.

A scheduled preparatory meeting between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was also canceled after what officials described as a “productive” phone call on Monday.

The White House did not explain why the meeting was called off. On Monday, Trump appeared to endorse freezing the conflict in Ukraine along current front lines, a proposal Moscow has rejected.
