The probe into the Chinese CEO of the UK s second largest drugmaker AstraZeneca triggered a 8.4 % drop in shares on Tuesday according to the FT.

AstaZeneca s sales in China amounted to 5.9 billion last year and account for 13% of all of the company s revenue.

AstraZeneca s CEO Wang is considered by industry insiders as the most influential Chinese leader at a global pharmaceutical company, showing the Chinese authorities are not afraid to hld even the best connected CEOs of corporate behemoths to account if they damage the country s core interests.

Wang oversaw a scam which involved salespeople changing medical records to make them eligible to claim insurance for a cancer drug, Tagisso.

About 100 former employees are now in prison in China and many more hundreds could join them.
