Labour rebel: Starmer could be gone by end of week

Sir Keir Starmer could be gone by the end of the week, a Labour MP has warned.

Speaking to The Telegraph on the condition of anonymity, the backbencher said the Lord Mandelson scandal had “shaken” the whole party and thrown the Prime Minister’s position into doubt.

They urged Sir Keir to address the Parliamentary Labour Party at the “earliest possibility”, so MPs can hear “exactly what he has got to say to us”.

They added: “It can’t be about ‘I will survive until the next point’. We’ve got some major milestones coming up. We’ve obviously got the by-election in Gorton and Denton. That’s not looking good. We’ve got local elections.

“And the question is, can Keir Starmer make it through to the weekend at the moment?

“So these are major, major questions that we’ve got. But I think the seriousness of that admission yesterday has really shaken the whole of the Labour Party. And I don’t just mean parliamentarians, the whole Labour Party.”
