Have no way of verifying the comment but Doctorow makes reference to it and it makes sense.
Trump was on a call to Putin, Trump was informed that Putin was in his country residence (his common law wife and child were though), he wasn't, he was in Moscow. Trump thought he was at his country residence. Trump then told Putin that he would confer with the EU/UK countries reference Zelensky and the peace terms and edged the call. Then the drone swarm was launched by the US on Putin's residence, they were all shit down. Putin then gave the parts to the Russian embassy, they passed them to the US embassy. Trump now knows that Putin knows he tried to kill him. It was US drone tech that can't be used by Ukraine, it requires US target data and US soldiers to fire them. Then, this week, several Russian tankers have been taken and the personnel on them arrested. This will escalate quickly.
We know just from the assassination of Charlie Kirk that Trump is a truly treacherous mobster.
That Trump would feign to Putin being a friend on a call, trying to mediate in the conflict, to lure him into giving info about his whereabouts and then try to kill him with drones is absolutely believable.
That Putin did not tell Trump the exact truth suspecting he would kill him is also credible.
The fact that Putin s common law wife and children were living in the residence targetted by the drones will be sure to have infuriated Putin.
