Investigations have been launched into what caused the collapse of Greek radio freequencies on Sunday when they were overwhelmed by a noise, a “continuous, involuntary emission,” disrupting radio channels and limiting controllers’ ability to communicate with aircraft.
Random chance and technical defects almost certainly did not cause the simultaneous occurrence of failures across different technical domains and distinct, non-interconnected systems (e.g. VCS, telephone and analog lines, HellasCom lines) as well as their simultaneous restoration.
The variety of communications which went down and came back up together, and the fact they have to be manipulated independently of eachother, strongly suggests a deliberate attack.
There is speculation online that Israel may have been behind the shut down to engineer animosity between Greece and Turkey, to which country most planes were diverted.
For this theory speaks the close relationship between Mitsotakis and Netanyahu. That the Mitsotakis government has given Netanyahu and Mossad all the codes and keys to its communications system is very credible given also their official cooperation in defence areas etc.
But Israel also stood to lose planes and people in the incident.
There are about 115 flights a day from Tel Aviv and Haifa either directl to Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki) or flying through Greek airspace to destrinations in Northern Europe, according to websites.
That means, about 10 to 20 planes may have been in Greek airspace at 9 am on Sunday when the communications failed, risking a mid air collision.
Panagiotis Psarros, chair of the Association of Greek Air Traffic Controllers, told reporters there was no way to communicate with aircraft.
That is a very dangerous sitauation for any Israeli plane approaching for example Athens airport to land or flying across a busy airspace with thousands of other planes and with no idea what is happening around them.
It is very unlikely that Netanyahu, Ben Gvir and Mossad would have risked allowing so many Israeli planes and thousands of Israelis could have crashed and collided as part of a jamming exercise with very thin, nebulous political benefits if any. Likely, they would have found a way to stop Israeli flights from going at that particular time if they had planned any kind of jamming over Greek airspace.
As far as media reports go, it looks like Israeli planes were just as much affected.
"Passengers traveling to and from Israel are likely to experience significant flight disruptions Sunday after a technical failure disrupted air traffic communications over Greece, aviation officials said. The malfunction has forced air traffic controllers to modify flight routes passing through Greek airspace, a key corridor for flights between Israel and much of Europe," states a FB page.

That means, Israel can be pretty much excluded as the author of the jamming.
They had a lot to lose and not much to gain.
Who else comes into question? Who has the means and the motive?
The mystery remains of which actor deliberately caused the simultaneous occurrence.of failures across different technical domains and distinct, non-interconnected systems (e.g. VCS, telephone and analog lines, HellasCom lines) and their simultaneous restoration.
Who has so much power over Greece s airspace and commnuniations? How did they acquire the knowledge? And what else might they do with that power?
From media
"The simultaneous occurrence and restoration of failures across different technical domains and distinct, non-interconnected systems (e.g. VCS, telephone and analog lines, HellasCom lines) characterizes the unprecedented nature of the phenomenon.”

“We are talking about a situation outside of any manual and any training. The total loss of the system has simply never been predicted anywhere, as even the backup was excluded,” he emphasizes.
“This was the biggest challenge. While the airports were working, a way had to be found to notify the pilot. The solution was to identify a frequency with partial coverage, as the transmitters in Sitia were operating, and a second frequency that was not affected, but was intended for a different use,” he adds.
So far, the exact causes that led to the complete loss of telephone communication and the closure of the Athens FIR for at least four hours have not been identified. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, there was a technical problem in the form of continuous “noise” interference in listening to frequencies, originating from excitations, i.e. unintentional signal emissions from the service’s transmitters. “Both the primary and secondary (backup) voice communication systems (VCS) and transceivers were in operation throughout the incident. However, the noise interference blocked the frequencies,” it stated on Monday.

From media
Greece is looking for the culprit behind the "radio glitch" that effectively shot down its #airspace yesterday, known in the #aviation navigation world as "#AthensFIR" (FIR being short for Flight Information Region); forcing all flights, including civilian passenger jets, to divert to neighboring airports, mostly to Türkiye.
...
There's only one country in the region that both possesses the ability to jam air traffic at this scale AND benefits from increased hostility between getting Greeks and Turks, and that is none other than Israel.
...
So, what does 🇮🇱 Israel achieve by utilizing #ElectronicWarfare against 🇬🇷 Greece?
📡 Test its own systems against a #NATO/#EU country, whose leaders are already in Israel's pocket and wouldn't make a big fuss even if the word got out. Think about it, doing it to Türkiye could be considered by Ankara a 'Casus Belli', grounds for war, and all the others are too far away from Israel to matter.
⚔️ Immediately blaming Türkiye increases the level of hostility between #Athens & #Ankara, which makes it easier for the unpopular #Mitsotakis government to sell his immoral alliance with #Netanyahu, an ICC-wanted war criminal, to the Greek public.
⚡️ Show Greeks that their systems are "vulnerable" and in need of "upgrades". Israeli companies are already lining up proposals to modernize Greece's air traffic control infrastructure and rip off Greek taxpayers to the tune of $1 billion.
🚀 Israel will likely then offer to sell #AirDefense and other systems, all integrated together and networked back to #TelAviv

The website has a list of destinations and the number of flights each day.
About 115 flights a day to Europe if you do the maths.
