A witness in the farm subsidy scandal, Gorgos Xylouris, failed to produce any exonerating evidence at a parliamentary inquiry and invoked his right to silence to not incriminate himself,.

At the same time, he accused lawmakers of smearing him and said he would make a full confession to a prosecutor. 

His claim to be innocent victim of a smear campaign is fantastical when he refuses to exonerate himself at an inquiry. 

In a sinister move, he went on to threaten the lawmaker Zoe Konstantopoulo, according to her.

Early clashes erupted when Xylouris submitted a memorandum asserting his right not to self-incriminate. “I am being humiliated like the worst criminal,” he said. “I am innocent and it will be proven.” He added, “Send me to the prosecutor so I can say everything.”

Amid escalating disputes, Konstantopoulou accused government officials of acting like a “mafia criminal organization” and claimed the witness threatened her as he exited.
