The French and British governments are planning to send 10,000 to 15,000 troops to the Ukraine in a de facto declaration of war against Russia , DIE WELT reports.

Beiden Ländern würde eine Einladung der Ukraine genügen. Die Überwachung des Waffenstillstands aus der Luft und von der See solle von den Nachbarstaaten der Ukraine aus sichergestellt werden. In den Planungen zur Überwachung des Waffenstillstands spiele auch die Türkei eine Rolle. So könne Ankara der Zeitung zufolge die Schwarzmeer-Region überwachen.
Weiter hieß es in dem Bericht, die EU-Staaten planten zum 4. Jahrestag des russischen Überfalls auf die Ukraine am 24. Februar 2026 die Verabschiedung eines 20. Sanktionspakets gegen Russland. Geplant seien Reisebeschränkungen und das Einfrieren von Vermögenswerten in der EU von weiteren Einzelpersonen und Organisationen. Auch weitere Sanktionen im Energiebereich und Bankensektor seien vorgesehen. Zudem sollten Schlupflöcher zur Umgehung der bisherigen Sanktionen geschlossen werden. Überlegt werde auch, den Import von russischem Uran zu verbieten und damit die Föderale Agentur für Atomenergie Russlands (Rosatom) zu sanktionieren. Dagegen gebe es bisher aber Widerstand aus Ländern wie Frankreich und Belgien.
