From media

Donald Trump remains ahead of Joe Biden in the polls after what was widely acknowledged to have been his disastrous debate performance in the first televised event of the 2024 election cycle.

Democrats have been left discussing whether to replace Mr Biden as the presidential nominee after he stuttered and stumbled his way through the programme.

In national polling, Trump is leading against Mr Biden only by a fraction. However, the former president leads the incumbent in several swing states, which could be critical to securing the White House in November.

...

Both candidates are mindful of the impact that Robert F. Kennedy Jr, an independent candidate polling in the high single digits, will have on the race.

His platform – a mix of vaccine scepticism, environmentalism, and isolationism – appears to be drawing traction from both the right and left. And both candidates have attacked him on the basis that he will boost the chances of the other.
