Gikas Magiorkinis, professor of hygiene and epidemiology at the University of Athens, has confirmed an outbreak of cases of the new Covid variant in Greece called FLiRT. 

Speaking to Skai TV, he said it emerged in Greece about two weeks ago and there has been an increase in cases and hospitalizations. 

However, he added that this particular variant does not cause severe disease
