California governor Gavin Newsom has just signed a new law banning local governments from requiring residents to present identification to vote in elections, opening the door to fraud and manipulation.

The Austrian Supreme (Constitutional) Court ruled in 2016 that
1 elections are the foundation of democracy (not the right to cast a vote)
2 votes do not count which are irregular, specifically then the postal votes
3 an election must be repeated when irregular votes could have influened the outcome, specifically the Austrian president election, which had to be repeated in December 2016

The same arguments apply in the USA.
Elections are the foundation of democracy.
They must be FAIR and FREE.
The element of fairness requires that the result reflects the will of the voters, who are residents of the country.
If voters who are not residents of a country are allowed to vote in their millions in an election, people whose votes can be bought (as happened in an election scandal in Austria), then the elections are not fair to the residents of the country who have to pay the taxes for the government, live there all their lives, retire there etc and bear the consequences of the election results and politicians elected into office in a way non resident voters do not have to bear.
Irregular votes, votes which do not require IDs open the door to fraud and election theft and undermine fair elections and so the trust of the public in democracy.
The same is true of postal votes, which also can be easily manipulated.
Gavin Newsom is conflicted as the Democrat Gov of California
He may be seeking to use massive voter fraud enabled by allowing people without an ID to vote, to manipulate the result in the favour of his party and the Soros mega donors.
Why else would he sign a law banning, stopping local government from insisting that voters show ID?
What motive can he have for that?
Elections are not more free when voters have to show an ID. They are more FAIR. They are less likely to be manipulated, stolen.
By signing a new law banning local governments from requiring IDS Newsom is not only going against the fundamental requirement for elections to be fair as well as free in a democracy to be legitimate but also against norms.
The UK government requires residents to show a valid ID to vote in the UK general and local election since May 2023.

In Austria, voting slips are sent to those who are registered as residents in a district
Only those who can prove they are residents can apply for and get the voting slips for their local district.
The voting slips must be presented at a specific polling station for the resident to be able to cast their vote.

There is no door open for someone to go to a polling station without a photo ID or proof they are a resident to vote in Austrian general and local elections.
These checks leaves postal votes as the de facto best way of casting fraudulent votes in Austria.
The other issue is WHO COUNTS THE VOTES at the polling stations and WHO ANNOUNCES THE VOTING RESULT.
If the vote counters are crooked, no number of checks on whether the votes are from residents etc will help.
To steal an election, it is not necessary to make one big theft of all the votes in one city. It is enough to steal a small number of votes more unobtrustively in most districts to aggregate enough total stolen votes to win an election.
No question in my mind, the Supreme Court will, on weighing all the arguments about whether elections should be fair as well as free, order Newsom s ban to be overturned on the basis they undermine the fairness of elections and open the door to massive fraud and election theft and so destroy the public trust in elections and democracy as well as the rule of law.
The Austrian Supreme Court 2016 ruling sets a solid and well argued precedent for Trump and Republcians to challenge results where the voting has not been FAIR as well as free.
